ဖက်ဒရယ်နိုင်ငံအဖြစ် စုဖွဲ့တည်ဆောက်နိုင်ဖို့ ဖွဲ့စည်းပုံအခြေခံဥပဒေပြင်ဆင်ရေး လူမျိုးပေါင်းစုံ နှီးနှော ဖလှယ်ပွဲကြီး ကျင်းပပြုလုပ်နေဆဲအချိန် . . . ၁၉၆၂-ခုနှစ် မတ်လ(၂)ရက်နေ့မှာ . . . အာဏာရှင်နေဝင်းက တိုင်းပြည်အာဏာကိုသိမ်းယူခဲ့ပြီး တိုင်းရင်းသားပြည်သူလူထု အမြောက်အများကို သတ်ဖြတ်ခဲ့ပါတယ်။ အဲ့ဒီသမိုင်းအဖြစ်ဆိုး ကြုံတွေ့ခဲ့ရတဲ့နေ့ကိုပဲ တောင်သူလယ်သမားနေ့အဖြစ် သတ်မှတ်ခဲ့တာပါ။
တောင်သူလယ်သမားလို့ ဆိုတဲ့အခါ . . . စိုက်ပျိုးရေးလုပ်ကြသူတွေပဲ မဟုတ်ပါဘူး။ စိုက်ပျိုးရေး၊ မွေးမြူရေး၊ တံငါလုပ်ငန်းအပါအဝင် . . . မြေ၊ ရေ၊ သစ်တောတွေကို အမှီပြုပြီး လုပ်ကိုင်စားသောက် ရှင်သန်ကြရသူတွေအားလုံး အကျုံးဝင်ပါတယ်။ ဥပဒေအမျိုးမျိုးသုံးပြီး မြေအသိမ်းခံရတာ၊ ကိုယ့်မြေ ကိုယ်ပြန်ရအောင် ကြိုးပမ်းရင်း ဖမ်းဆီးထောင်ချခံရတာ၊ နှိပ်စက်သတ်ဖြတ်ခံရတာ၊ မြေကိုမှီပြီး အသက် မွေးရပေမယ့် မြေပိုင်ဆိုင်ခွင့် မသေချာတာ၊ တတ်စွမ်းသလောက် အစဉ်တစိုက် စိုက်ပျိုးနေရပေမယ့် အကျိုးအမြတ်ကို အပြည့်အဝ ခံစားခွင့်မရကြတာတွေဟာ တောင်သူလယ်သမားထု တစ်ရပ်လုံး ရင်ဆိုင်ရတဲ့ အကြပ်အတည်းတွေပါ။
တကယ်တော့ တောင်သူလယ်သမားတွေဟာ လူတွေနေ့စဉ်လိုအပ်တဲ့ အစားအစာတွေ စိုက်ပျိုးထုတ်လုပ် ပေးကြသူတွေဖြစ်သလို . . . အာဏာရှင်အဆက်ဆက်ရဲ့ ဖိနှိပ်မှုကို တွန်းလှန်ရုန်းကန် ဆန့်ကျင်ခဲ့ကြသူ တွေလည်း ဖြစ်ကြပါတယ်။ သမိုင်းဖြစ်ရပ်များသာမက ယခု နွေဦးတော်လှန်ရေးမှာပါ တောင်သူ လယ်သမား အင်အားစုအသီးသီးရဲ့ ပုံစံအမျိုးမျိုးနဲ့ ပါဝင်တိုက်ပွဲဝင်နေကြတာကို တွေ့ရမှာပါ။
ဒါကြောင့် ဖိနှိပ်မှုနဲ့ အာဏာရှင်အဆက်ဆက်ကို ဆန့်ကျင်လာခဲ့ကြတဲ့ တောင်သူလယ်သမားတွေကို ဂုဏ်ပြု နိုင်ဖို့ တောင်သူလယ်သမားနေ့ဟာလည်း လိုအပ်ပါတယ်။ ဒါပေမဲ့ စစ်ဘီလူးအာဏာရှင် အသက်ဝင်ခဲ့တဲ့ မတ်လ(၂)ရက်နေ့ကတော့ ဆီလျော်မှုမရှိတဲ့အပြင် သမိုင်းအဖြစ်ဆိုးကို ဖုံးကွယ်တာလည်း ဖြစ်ပါတယ်။
ဒါဆို တောင်သူလယ်သမားနေ့က ဘယ်နေ့လဲ?
သမိုင်းအစဉ်အလာအရ . . . တောင်လှန်ရေးခေါင်းဆောင် ဂဠုန်ဆရာစံဟာ ၁၉၃၀-ခုနှစ်၊ ဒီဇင်ဘာလ(၂၂) ရက်နေ့မှာ တောင်သူလယ်သမားအရေးတော်ပုံ စတင်ခဲ့ပါတယ်။ အဲ့ဒီအရေးတော်ပုံဟာ ဖိနှိပ်ခေါင်းပုံဖြတ်ခံ တောင်သူလယ်သမားအရေးသာမကပဲ ကိုလိုနီနယ်ချဲ့ဆန့်ကျင်ရေးလှုပ်ရှားမှုအစလည်း ဖြစ်ခဲ့ပါတယ်။ ဒါကြောင့် ဒီဇင်ဘာ(၂၂)ရက်နေ့ကို တောင်သူလယ်သမားအဖြစ် တော်လှန်ရေးနဲ့ နိုင်ငံရေးအင်အားစု အသီးသီးက အသိအမှတ်ပြု လက်ခံကျင်းပခဲ့ကြပါတယ်။ ၂၀၁၉-ခုနှစ်မှာ တောင်သူလယ်သမား အင်အားစု အသီးသီးက ညီလာခံတစ်ရပ်ကျင်းပပြုလုပ်ခဲ့ပြီးတော့လည်း ဒီဇင်ဘာ(၂၂)ရက်နေ့ကို တောင်သူလယ်သမား နေ့အဖြစ် ထပ်လောင်း အတည်ပြုခဲ့ကြပါတယ်။

Amidst the multi-ethnic conference on federal constitution, the dictator Ne Win staged coup on 2nd March 1962 and committed mass killings of the people. That tragic day was marked as the Peasants’ Day in the later years.
The term “Peasants” doesn’t limit the crop growers; it covers all the working people who have to rely land, water & forest for their live making – including farmers, livestock keepers & fishers. These people are also the victims of land grabbing under different laws; get arrested, detained & killed while defending their land; uncertain land ownership although their lives rely on land; and have no certain benefits despite farming their best.
In addition to producing food that is daily necessary of the people, the peasants are the people who resists the consecutive dictatorship – proven both in the history and current spring revolution. Their sacrifices and resistances deserve to be honored by setting a specific day. However, March 2 is not the suitable as it activated the warlord dictator and specifying peasants’ day is covering up the blood-shed history.
So, which day should be?
Within the history, the revolutionary leader Galon-Sayar-San started the farmers’ revolution on 22nd December, 1930 – it also sparked the peoples’ movement against colonialism. And many revolutionary forces & political allies marked that day as the peasants’ day. The marking of the Peasants’ Day on December 22, was confirmed again during the assembly of farmers’ alliances in 2019.
Therefore, we hereby urge you –
- To accept December 22 as the Peasants’ Day
- To support the peasants’ movement resisting to oppressions & fighting for the rights to land
- To join the movement against fascist-dictatorship and building federal democratic nation.
